Governor Krakow has promised his daughter, Sonja, in marriage to the wealthy prince and general Sabinsky. However, Sonja is secretly engaged to the young Lieutenant Petrowitsch. When the general discovers that the lieutenant is courting his intended bride, he sends him to a remote military posting.
