In Bohemia and Franconia during the first half of the 18th century, between 1755 and 1757. Carlo, due to a plot sparked by his brother Francesco’s jealousy, leaves his family and sets out to try his luck as a bandit, but this life among outcasts disappoints him. He is unable, however, to reconcile with his father, as his brother does everything in his power to prevent it by spreading false rumors. He thus leads Massimiliano, the father, and Amalia, who is in love with Carlo, to believe that Carlo is dead and wants Amalia to marry Francesco. Amalia, unwilling to do so, takes refuge in the Bohemian forest. Francesco imprisons his father and takes his place; Carlo realizes this, but it is too late to act... Premiered on July 22, 1847, at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London. From the “Tutto Verdi” box set of 27 Verdi operas. Recorded live at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples on March 21, 25, 27, 29, and 31, 2012.
